The history of this bad mama jama
Like many Jewish-American specialties, babka originated in Eastern Europe – Poland and Ukraine in particular – in the early 1800s. As a way to use extra challah dough, Jews there would roll up the dough with cinnamon or fruit jam and bake it alongside the challah.
Babka Mama makes everything in small batches from our home base in Denville, New Jersey. Founded by a stay at home mom with a massive sweet tooth. Hayley, the self proclaimed Babka mama herself is passionate about stuffing her face with every iteration of babka she can find. After carefully taste testing countless babkas, Hayley decided to embark on her own babka making journey, thus Babka mama was born.
